Cistena Purpleleaf Sand Cherry (Prunus × cistena) is a beautiful deciduous shrub featuring rich reddish-purple foliage that maintains its vibrant color throughout the growing season, complemented by delicate, fragrant, pale pink flowers in spring and a naturally upright, rounded growth habit. Thriving in full sun with average, well-drained soil and moderate moisture, this colorful shrub is an excellent choice for foundation plantings, mixed borders, informal hedges, and landscape accents throughout central Illinois. Cistena Purpleleaf Sand Cherry offers excellent cold hardiness, attracts spring pollinators, and provides striking foliage contrast throughout the summer, although occasional pruning and monitoring for common cherry pests and diseases will help maintain its attractive appearance.
