A round-topped rather open tree when mature but nicely pyramidal while young this excellent deciduous tree is one of the very best of the Oaks.  The Shingle Oak makes an excellent windbreak and can be sheared to grow as a clipped hedge.  Yellow to rusty red fall color and very tolerant to city and drought conditions.
