Cherry-Canada Red 2.0"B

Canada Red Chokecherry (Prunus virginiana 'Canada Red') is an attractive deciduous ornamental tree featuring fragrant clusters of small white flowers in spring, followed by foliage that emerges green and gradually matures to rich reddish-purple, creating beautiful color throughout summer. Thriving in full sun with average, well-drained soil and moderate moisture, this hardy tree is an excellent choice for specimen plantings, naturalized areas, and spacious residential landscapes throughout central Illinois. Canada Red Chokecherry offers excellent cold hardiness, attracts pollinators, and produces small, dark purple fruits that provide food for birds, although its tendency to produce root suckers and susceptibility to common cherry pests and diseases should be considered when selecting a planting location.
